A Visionary Collaboration: Niina Kratz at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale

We had the privilege of collaborating with Niina Kratz, a Finnish contemporary artist renowned for her groundbreaking fabric-tying technique, which has earned her international recognition. Niina’s distinctive approach to contemporary textile art—where texture, color, and movement intertwine—brings an extraordinary depth to modern design.

For this hotel art installation, we carefully curated a selection of her striking fabric pieces to adorn one of the hallways in the prestigious Hilton Fort Lauderdale. The result is a captivating, immersive gallery experience that seamlessly integrates fine art with luxury hospitality art. As guests walk through the space, they are enveloped in a visual journey—each piece uniquely crafted yet harmoniously connected, creating a dynamic interplay of form and repetition.

Beyond the hotel art installation, we had the opportunity to engage Niina in a conversation about her artistic journey and the profound role of art in hospitality. She shared her philosophy on how art transforms spaces, making them more inviting and resonant, reminding us that humans are naturally drawn to artistic expression. At my 9th grade’s graduation ceremony, I was given a small award for my artistic skills.

2. How do you know when a piece is finished? Is it more of a feeling or a technical decision depending on where the final piece will be located?

When I’m finished, I usually step back for a day or two, and then fine tune the piece to perfection.

A black piece from 2021. It got destroyed in an apartment fire in SoHo New York last year.
