Ashley article:

Art Director Ashley

1. What role does your personal background or experiences play in shaping your artistic vision?

a. It has a huge impact on who I am as a person, so it heavily influences the way I

see things and make art. Growing up in Jamaica, surrounded by the color and

vibrancy of life, impacted the way I use colors in my art. I try to have all of my art

reflect or have a nod to my experiences.

2. Was there any specific themes or emotions you wanted to convey through these works?

a. I wanted to convey the laid back nature of the Caribbean culture while tying in the connection to nature and heritage with the patterns.

3. How do you think art can connect with different cultures, particularly when celebrating Black history and heritage?

a. I think art has a unique way of changing depending on its viewer. Art can hold

and communicate the narratives of Black history. Art allows these stories to be

shared in ways that reach audiences and tell stories across different backgrounds.

So it can connect with different cultures on many levels just with that.
